ABSTRACT

Purpose@#Errors in pediatric death certificates (DCs) have been rarely reported. We analyzed the errors in writing the DCs issued in an emergency department (ED). @*Methods@#The DCs issued at the ED to patients aged 18 years or younger were retrospectively analyzed. Their medical records were reviewed by 4 emergency physicians. Major and minor errors in the DCs were defined based on the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems 10th revision guidelines. The DCs were classified into the disease group and the external group by the manner of death, and the errors were compared. @*Results@#Among a total of 87 DCs issued in the ED, 97.5% and 100% were confirmed to contain at least 1 error in the disease (n = 40) and external (n = 47) groups, respectively. The median numbers of errors in the analyzed DCs were 2.0 and 3.0 in the disease and external groups, respectively (P = 0.004). In the disease group, the most frequent major error was reporting only a secondary condition as the underlying cause of death without antecedent causes (6 cases [15.0%]). In the external group, the most frequent major error was writing 2 or more causes in a single line for the cause of death (17 cases [36.2%]). In both groups, the most common minor error was omission of a time interval record for the cause of death (disease, 37 cases [92.5%]; external, 42 cases [89.4%]). @*Conclusion@#Any errors were identified in 98.9% of pediatric DCs issued in the ED, and the total number of errors was larger in the external group.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#This study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of the assessment of medical directors for indirect medical oversight on prehospital care. @*Methods@#Medical directors assessed the same prehospital care run sheets with six cases of cardiac arrest, four cases of withholding or interruption of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and six cases of severe trauma patients. Demographics of the medical directors and the accuracy of their assessment for the prehospital care run sheets were investigated. @*Results@#Board certified emergency physician was 14 of the total 21 medical directors (58%). Eleven medical directors were educated for the medical director course of the Korean council of emergency medical services physicians. The accuracy of the assessment of the medical directors was 50% in the assessment of electrocardiogram using an automated external defibrillator (AED) in cardiac arrest. Pulse check, respiration check, AED monitoring and the reason of interruption for CPR were lower than 60% for withholding or interruption of CPR. The lowest accurate assessment of medical directors was the appropriate treatment for trauma, with 36.5% in severe trauma. @*Conclusion@#Lower accuracy in some assessments of the medical directors for indirect medical oversight on prehospital care was identified. Education and quality control are needed for medical directors to provide high-quality indirect medical oversight.

ABSTRACT

Background@#Since the declaration of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, COVID-19 has affected the responses of emergency medical service (EMS) systems to cases of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). The purpose of this study was to identify the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on EMS responses to and outcomes of adult OHCA in an area of South Korea. @*Methods@#This was a retrospective observational study of adult OHCA patients attended by EMS providers comparing the EMS responses to and outcomes of adult OHCA during the COVID-19 pandemic to those during the pre-COVID-19 period. Propensity score matching was used to compare the survival rates, and logistic regression analysis was used to assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the survival of OHCA patients. @*Results@#A total of 891 patients in the pre-COVID-19 group and 1,063 patients in the COVID-19 group were included in the final analysis. During the COVID-19 period, the EMS call time was shifted to a later time period (16:00–24:00, P < 0.001), and the presence of an initial shockable rhythm was increased (pre-COVID-19 vs. COVID-19, 7.97% vs. 11.95%, P = 0.004). The number of tracheal intubations decreased (5.27% vs. 1.22%, P < 0.001), and the use of mechanical chest compression devices (30.53% vs. 44.59%, P < 0.001) and EMS response time (median [quartile 1-quartile 3], 7 [5–10] vs. 8 [6–11], P < 0.001) increased. After propensity score matching, the survival at admission rate (22.52% vs. 18.24%, P = 0.025), survival to discharge rate (7.77% vs. 5.52%, P = 0.056), and favorable neurological outcome (5.97% vs. 3.49%, P < 0.001) decreased. In the propensity score matching analysis of the impact of COVID-19, odds ratios of 0.768 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.592–0.995) for survival at admission and 0.693 (95% CI, 0.446–1.077) for survival to discharge were found. @*Conclusion@#During the COVID-19 period, there were significant changes in the EMS responses to OHCA. These changes are considered to be partly due to social distancing measures. As a result, the proportion of patients with an initial shockable rhythm in the COVID-19 period was greater than that in the pre-COVID-19 period, but the final survival rate and favorable neurological outcome were lower.

ABSTRACT

Purpose@#This study examines errors in death certificates (DCs) issued to cases of poisoning. @*Methods@#DCs issued in poisoning cases were retrospectively reviewed. Errors in the DC were classified as major and minor errors, and were evaluated in accordance with their impact on the process of selecting the cause of death (COD). @*Results@#A total of 79 DCs were evaluated; 43 (54.4%) DCs were issued in the emergency department (ED), and 36 (45.6%) DCs were issued outside the ED. The average major and minor errors per DC were determined to be 0.4 and 3.3, respectively. Moreover, an average of 3.0 errors were discovered in DCs issued at the ED, and 4.4 errors in DCs issued outside the ED. The most common major errors were incorrect manner of death (11.4%, 9/79), followed by unacceptable COD (7.6%, 6/79), and the mode of dying as an underlying COD (5.1%, 4/79). The common minor errors most frequently encountered were incorrect time interval (86.1%, 68/79), followed by incorrect other significant conditions (73.4%, 58/79), and no record for date of onset (62.0%, 49/79). @*Conclusion@#Our results indicate that the total numbers of major errors, minor errors and cases of misjudged cause of death were greater in DCs issued outside the ED than in DCs issued at the ED. The most frequently quoted major error of DCs related to poisoning was determined to be the incorrect manner of death.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#This study aimed to investigate the perception of emergency medical service (EMS) providers and medical directors toward the field skill proficiency of EMS providers. We further examined differences in perception according to the certification and hospital career of individuals. @*Methods@#This survey was conducted enrolling all active EMS providers in Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam, as well as emergency physicians who participated in direct medical direction. Pre-developed questionnaires were sent as text messages to individual EMS providers and emergency physicians using an internet-based survey tool (Google Forms).Questionnaires were composed of 25 items in 7 categories: “airway management”, “ventilatory support”, “circulatory support”, “field assessment and management of trauma patients”, “field assessment and management of patients with chest pain”, “field assessment and management of patients with neurologic symptoms”, and “other items”. The response was based on a five-point Likert scale, where 0 score indicated no experience at all. @*Results@#The questionnaire was distributed to 1,781 EMS providers and 52 medical directors; of these, 1,314 (73.7%) EMS providers and 34 (65.3%) medical directors completed the survey. EMS providers rated themselves as above average (3 points) for most of the questions. However, the majority responded that they had no experience or low proficiency in endotracheal intubation and prehospital delivery (median 2; interquartile range [IQR], 0-3). Conversely, medical directors assessed the EMS provider’s proficiency as above average in use of I-gel, recognition of hypoglycemia, field management of trauma patients, use of oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal airway, use of laryngeal mask airway, and optimal oxygen supply (median, 4; IQR, 3-4), but responded with low scores for most other questions. Based on the EMS provider certification, nurses scored themselves more proficient than level-1 emergency medical technicians (EMTs) for intravenous access (P<0.001), whereas level-1 EMTs recognized themselves more proficient than nurses for endotracheal intubation (P<0.001), use of Magill forceps (P=0.004), and pediatric cardiopulmonary resuscitation (P<0.001). @*Conclusion@#This study recognized the discrepancies in the perception of EMS provider’s field skill proficiency, as perceived by EMS providers and medical directors, and between level-1 EMTs and nurses. We propose that regional EMS authorities need to make persistent efforts to narrow these perception gaps through effective educational programs for EMS providers and medical directors.

The questionnaire consisted of the basic demographic data, work status, perception of on-line medical oversight, and the upcoming national pilot project of the expanding firefighter EMS personnel’s clinical scope. The survey was conducted from May 17 to 27, 2019. @*Results@#The response rates for EMS personnel and MD were 73.7% and 65.3%, respectively. Of the local EMS personnel, 86.8% were male. The average age and field career was 33.5±6.2 years and 50 months, respectively. The proportion of nurse and 1st-grade emergency medical technicians were 30.6% and 35.7%. The EMS personnel and MD answered ‘on-scene basic life support’ and ‘patient’s refusal of transport’, respectively, as the most unnecessary medical oversight. Both responded to the main problem of current medical oversight as ‘request for unnecessary medical oversight.’ EMS personnel responded that all items in the national pilot project of expanding firefighter EMS personnel’s clinical scope would be helpful, while MD reported that only ‘use of epinephrine in anaphylactic patient’ and ‘use of pre-hospital 12 lead electrocardiogram in chest pain patient’ would helpful (P<0.01). @*Conclusion@#There was a certain difference in perception of the most unnecessary medical oversight and the upcoming national pilot project of expanding the clinical scope of firefighter EMS personnel between EMS personnel and MD.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: This study was conducted to evaluate the concordance between the underlying causes of death (UCOD) on the death certificates written by three emergency physicians (EPs). We investigated errors on the death certificates committed by each EP.METHODS: This study included 106 patients issued a death certificate in the emergency department of an academic hospital. Three EPs reviewed the medical records retrospectively and completed 106 death certificates independently. The selection of the UCOD on the death certificates by each EP (EP-UCOD) was based on the general principle or selection rules. The gold standard UCOD (GS-UCOD) was determined for each patient by unanimous consent between three EPs. We also compared between the EP-UCOD and the GS-UCOD. In addition, we compared between UCODs of three EPs. The errors on the death certificates were investigated by each EP.RESULTS: The rates of concordance between EP-UCOD and the GS-UCOD were 86%, 81%, and 67% for EP-A, EP-B, and EP-C, respectively. The concordance rates between EP-A and EP-B were the highest overall percent agreement (0.783), and those between EP-A and EP-C were the lowest overall percent agreement (0.651). Although each EP had differences in the errors they committed, none of them listed the mode of dying as UCOD.CONCLUSION: This study confirmed that each EP wrote death certificates indicating different causes of death for the same decedents; however, the three EPs made fewer errors on the patients’ death certificates compared with those reported in previous studies.

PURPOSE@#This study was to investigate errors of death certificate (DC) issued for patients with trauma.@*METHODS@#A retrospective review for DC issued after death related to trauma at a training hospital trauma center was conducted. Errors on DC were classified into major and minor errors depending on their influence on the process of selecting the cause of death (COD). All errors were compared depending on the place of issue of DC, medical doctors who wrote the DC, and the number of lines filled up for COD of DC.@*RESULTS@#Of a total 140 DCs, average numbers of major and minor errors per DC were 0.8 and 3.7, respectively. There were a total of 2.8 errors for DCs issued at the emergency department (ED) and 5.4 errors for DCs issued beyond ED. The most common major error was more than one COD on a single line for DCs issued at the ED and incompatible casual relation between CODs for DCs issued beyond ED. The number of major errors was 0.5 for emergency physician and 0.8 for trauma surgeon and neurosurgeon. Total errors by the number of lines filled up for COD were the smallest (3.1) for two lines and the largest (6.0) for four lines.@*CONCLUSIONS@#Numbers of total errors and major errors on DCs related to trauma only were 4 and 0.8, respectively. As more CODs were written, more errors were found.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE@#This study investigated the characteristics of adult patients who had fallen from a height and presented to an emergency room (ER) according to gender and intentionality, with the goal of reducing the harm caused by these injuries.@*METHODS@#A retrospective analysis was conducted of fall-from-height patients aged ≥19 years from the in-depth surveillance study of injured patients visiting ERs conducted under the supervision of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from 2011 to 2016. Patterns were analyzed according to gender and intentionality.@*RESULTS@#There were 29,838 men (68.5%) and 13,734 women (31.5%), with mean ages of 50.3±15.7 years and 57.2±19.9 years, respectively. The most common height of the fall was ≥1 m to 4 m in men (n=15,863; 53.2%) and <1 m in women (n=7,293; 53.1%). The most common location where the fall occurred was the workplace for men (n=10,500 male; 35.2%) and residential facilities for women (n=7,755; 56.5%). Most falls from height were unintentional (n=41,765; 97.1% vs. n=1,264; 2.9% for intentional falls). Suicide was the most frequent reason for intentional falls, and the age group of 19–30 years predominated in this category (n=377; 29.9%). For intentional falls, the most common interval before presentation to the ER was 0–6 hours (n=370; 29.3%) and the most common height was ≥4 m (n=872; 69.0%).@*CONCLUSIONS@#Among men, falls from height most often occurred from ≥1 m to 4 m, at the workplace, and during the course of paid work, whereas among women, they were most common from <1 m, in residential facilities, and during daily activities. Intentional falls most often occurred with the purpose of suicide, in the age group of 19–30 years, with an interval of 0–6 hours until treatment, from ≥4 m, and in residential facilities. Alcohol consumption was more common in intentional falls.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#study was conducted to identify patients who actually require medical treatment in the frequent users of the emergency department (ED) and evaluate the factors affecting the level of urgency by Korean Triage and Acuity Scale.@*METHODS@#We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of frequent users who used more than four times a year to the ED in 2015. They were triaged on every use of ED and divided into non-urgent group and urgent group based on an average triage scale of three. The characteristics were compared between both groups.@*RESULTS@#The total 443 patients were frequent users and they used the ED 2,944 times. The urgent group included 92 patients, and their median number of ED uses were 4 times. The urgent group was older and higher rate of male than the non-urgent group. The more patients suffered from medical diseases such as diabetes, cerebrovascular disease, ischemic heart disease, other heart disease, lung disease, and kidney disease in the urgent group. There was no difference in education, and socioeconomic status, and ratio uses with same symptoms in both groups. At the end of the study two years later, 55% of the urgent group died.@*CONCLUSION@#The urgent group consists of 92 patients (21%) of the frequent emergent department users. The factors affecting the level of urgency are male sex, cerebrovascular disease, other heart disease, lung disease, and kidney disease as medical history. On the other hand, the psychiatric history and other minor diseases are factors affecting reversely the level of urgency.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: This study investigated the most common errors on death certificates written by resident trainees of the emergency department and evaluated the effects of education on how to write a death certificate. METHODS: A casebook of 31 deaths was prepared based on actual death cases in the emergency room in 2016. Ten residents completed 31 death certificates for the death casebook without any prior notice and then received education on ‘How to write the death certificate.’ They completed the death certificates again for the same casebook after receiving the education and the number of errors on all death certificates was again determined and divided into major and minor errors. The average number of error types was compared before and after the education. RESULTS: Major errors occurred in 55% of all death certificates, but decreased to 32% after education. Minor errors decreased from 81% before education to 54% after education. The most common major error was ‘unacceptable cause of death’ (mean±standard deviation [SD], 10.2±8.2), and the most common minor error was ‘absence of time interval’ (mean±SD, 24.0±7.7), followed by ‘absence of other significant conditions’ (mean±SD, 14.6±6.1) before education. CONCLUSION: Education on ‘how to write a death certificate’ can help reduce errors on death certificates and improve the quality of death certificates.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE@#This study was to analyze clinical and epidemiological characteristics of elderly patients who were admitted to the emergency department (ED) due to falls by separating male and female.@*METHODS@#We retrospectively analyzed the fall patients aged 65 years or older from the data of the in-depth surveillance study of injured patients visit to the ED under the supervision of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) from 2011 to 2016 by separating male and female.@*RESULTS@#A total of 361,588 elderly fall patients were analyzed and, among them, 14,429 (37.3%) were males and 24,208 (62.7%) were females. Male and female showed similar frequency of damage happening season. However, they showed falling accident mostly on winter. The time of injury occurrence is mostly from 12:00 to 18:00 with 4,949 (34.3%) male and 8,564 (35.4%) female. Most falls occurred in daily activities, accounting for 7,614 (52.8%) in males and 14,957 (61.8%) in females, respectively. Unintentional damage accounted for the most part and 7,395 (51.2%) of male and 15,343 (63.4%) of female were injured indoors. Head and neck were the most common site of injuring, with 8,392 (58.2%) in males and 7,851 (32.4%) in females. According to ED examination outcomes, most of the patients were discharged, while the majority of the hospitalized patients were admitted to the general patient room.@*CONCLUSIONS@#The elderly falls occurred mostly from 12:00 to 18:00, during winter and to elderly women. Also, they happened unintentionally indoors in everyday life, mostly. Proved clinical, epidemiological characteristics from this research will be used as useful indicator at validity research of development of prevent program of falling accident for elderly people.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: There has been active research on anaphylaxis, but many study subjects are limited to patients registered with anaphylaxis codes. However, anaphylaxis codes tend to be underused. The aim of this study was to investigate the accuracy of anaphylaxis code registration and the clinical characteristics of accurate and inaccurate anaphylaxis registration in anaphylactic patients. METHODS: This retrospective study evaluated the medical records of adult patients who visited the university hospital emergency department between 2012 and 2016. The study subjects were divided into the groups with accurate and inaccurate anaphylaxis codes registered under anaphylaxis and other allergy-related codes and symptom-related codes, respectively. RESULTS: Among 211,486 patients, 618 (0.29%) had anaphylaxis. Of these, 161 and 457 were assigned to the accurate and inaccurate coding groups, respectively. The average age, transportation to the emergency department, past anaphylaxis history, cancer history, and the cause of anaphylaxis differed between the 2 groups. Cutaneous symptom manifested more frequently in the inaccurate coding group, while cardiovascular and neurologic symptoms were more frequently observed in the accurate group. Severe symptoms and non-alert consciousness were more common in the accurate group. Oxygen supply, intubation, and epinephrine were more commonly used as treatments for anaphylaxis in the accurate group. Anaphylactic patients with cardiovascular symptoms, severe symptoms, and epinephrine use were more likely to be accurately registered with anaphylaxis disease codes. CONCLUSIONS: In case of anaphylaxis, more patients were registered inaccurately under other allergy-related codes and symptom-related codes rather than accurately under anaphylaxis disease codes. Cardiovascular symptoms, severe symptoms, and epinephrine treatment were factors associated with accurate registration with anaphylaxis disease codes in patients with anaphylaxis.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Falls from low-height can cause severe injuries in the elderly population. This study was conducted to determine characteristics of injuries from low-height falls. METHODS: We retrospectively review surveillance data on injured patients who presented to six emergency departments from January 2011 to December 2015. Study subjects were divided into severe group and non-severe group based on severity of injury. The general and clinical characteristics were compared between the two groups and analyzed factors related with severe injuries. RESULTS: Of 1,190 elderly patients, severe group comprised 82 patients (7%). The severe group was 2 years younger than the non-severe group. In the severe group, 61% was men and 34% in the non-severe group. In the non-severe, the injuries more commonly occurred at residential facilities and indoors than those in the severe group. Paid work during injury occurrence was 15%, and the more patients presented with non-alert consciousness in the severe group. The most common regions of major injury were head and neck in the severe group. CONCLUSION: Paid work, non-alert consciousness, and major injury to head and neck are relating factors to severe injuries in the elderly population.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To define early predictors of critical cases involving patients who visited the emergency department (ED) due to gas inhalation, with the goal of identifying patients who require intensive monitoring and treatment. METHODS: The retrospective study was carried out for patients who visited the ED at Ulsan University Hospital due to gas inhalation from March 2014 to February 2016. General demographics, mechanism of accident, critical symptoms, vital signs, blood lab test results, severity, and clinical manifestation were investigated. Patients were divided into a critical group and non-critical group, and predictors of critical cases were investigated by comparing both groups. RESULTS: Of the 180 patients, 26 patients were in the critical group. In this group, more patients displayed altered mentality and cardiac arrest (both p<0.001). The critical group also showed significantly higher fractions for low-blood pressure (systolic blood pressure<90 mmHg; p<0.001), number of critical symptoms (p<0.001), transport by emergency medical services (p=0.003), and consultation involving other departments (p<0.001). Patients in the critical group showed higher Korean Triage and Acuity Scale (KTAS) level (p<0.001), lactate value (p=0.001), and carboxy-hemoglobin value (p=0.017) as well as older age (p=0.001), lower pH (p=0.001), and HCO₃⁻ value (p<0.001). Multiple regression analysis revealed that predictors of critical cases were older age and higher KTAS level (both p<0.001). CONCLUSION: Patients admitted to the ED for treatment of gas inhalation, who were older and had a higher KTAS level, require intensive monitoring and treatment.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the epidemiologic characteristics of patients who visited emergency departments (EDs) after intentional poisoning in Korea. METHODS: This study retrospectively analyzed the data of of 23 hospitals during a five-year period, between 2011 and 2015. We included patients who inflicted injury to themselves - attempt of suicide - by means of poisoning. RESULTS: A total of 18,121 patients visited an ED after intentional poisoning. Among them, 58.3% were females; however, there were more males among those aged 60 years or older. The mortality rate for males was 8.6%, which was 3.1 times higher than that for females with 2.8%. The most common poison was pesticides (35.4%) in males and sedative-hypnotics (44.0%) in females. The most common causative agent of death was pesticide in both sexes (75.2% and 65.3%, respectively). Since the production of paraquat was discontinued in 2011, the number of deaths from pesticide poisoning has decreased. The mortality rate declined in both males and females, from 12.6% and 4.5% in 2011 to 7.1% and 2.1% in 2015, respectively. CONCLUSION: In this study, we analyzed the epidemiologic characteristics of intentional poisoning, especially the frequency of suicide attempts by gender and age group, the cause of suicide, and the causative agent. This can be used as basic data for establishing policies to reduce and prevent suicide attempts by poisoning.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to survey the accuracy of registration as anaphylaxis codes and the clinical characteristics of anaphylaxis registered correctly and incorrectly in pediatric anaphylaxis. METHODS: This study was conducted retrospectively using the medical records of patients under 15 years who visited a training hospital Emergency Department (ED) for 5 years. The study subjects were divided into the correct group (registered as anaphylaxis codes correctly) and the incorrect group (registered as other anaphylaxis related codes). RESULTS: Of the 133 patients, 14 belonged to the correct group and 119 to the incorrect group. The median age of the correct group was 9 years old and that of the incorrect group was 2 years old. Sex, transportation to the ED, elapsed time from exposure to ED arrival, past history of allergy, causes of anaphylaxis except drug, severity of symptom, mental status, and antihistamine use were not different between the 2 groups. Drugs as the cause of anaphylaxis and cardiovascular/neurologic symptoms were more common in the correct group. Gastrointestinal symptoms were more frequent in the incorrect group. Intravenous fluid, steroid, bronchodilator, and epinephrine were more commonly used as the treatment for anaphylaxis in the correct group. The pediatric patients treated with epinephrine tended to be registered anaphylaxis correctly. CONCLUSION: More patients were registered incorrectly as other anaphylaxis-related disease codes rather than correctly as the anaphylaxis disease codes in pediatric anaphylaxis. Epinephrine use was the associated factor for being registered correctly as the anaphylaxis disease codes in pediatric anaphylaxis.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: This study was conducted to investigate the frequency and clinical characteristics of anaphylaxis patients who are registered inaccurately with other disease codes. METHODS: Study subjects presenting at the emergency department (ED) were retrospectively collected using disease codes to search for anaphylaxis patients in a previous studies. The study group was divided into an accurate and inaccurate group according to whether disease codes were accurately registered as anaphylaxis codes. RESULTS: Among 266 anaphylaxis patients, 144 patients (54%) received inaccurate codes. Cancer was the most common comorbidity, and the radio-contrast media was the most common cause of anaphylaxis in the accurate group. Cutaneous and respiratory symptoms manifested more frequently in the inaccurate group, while cardiovascular and neurological symptoms were more frequent in the accurate group. Blood pressure was lower, and shock and non-alert consciousness were more common in the accurate group. Administration of intravenous fluid and epinephrine use were more frequent in the accurate group. Anaphylaxis patients with a history of cancer, shock, and epinephrine use were more likely to be registered as anaphylaxis codes accurately, but patients with respiratory symptoms were more likely to be registered with other disease codes. CONCLUSION: In cases of anaphylaxis, the frequency of inaccurately registered disease codes was higher than that of accurately registered codes. Anaphylaxis patients who were not treated with epinephrine at the ED who did not have a history of cancer, but had respiratory symptoms were at increased risk of being registered with disease codes other than anaphylaxis codes.
